about
A few years ago, I was lucky enough to find a small apartment on Île Saint-Louis in the center of Paris. I was familiar with the neighborhood having been to the city dozens of times over the years, but I wasn’t so familiar with the history of the island itself. I’m not a historian, but I am a fan of research and when I began looking into the history of my building, and more generally the history of the neighborhood, I was surprised that it was so difficult to find a centralized source for information on the island and its storied past. My hope is that this website will serve as an educational opportunity for myself and also as an entry point for the reader into the extraordinary evolution of the island, it’s remarkably preserved XVIIth century architecture, and also the neighborhood’s vibrant, ever-changing present. Île Saint-Louis is a village in the center of Paris; cross one of the island’s five storied bridges and discover one of Paris’ first planned communities in the center of the Seine.
